hoping for magic with vince young

It's been a tough week for fans of Texas football. I guess Cowboys fans might have their BCS woes tampered a little after last night, but no doubt about it, Thursday night's national championship game was a heartbreaker for Lone Star supporters. And I can't say I have ever been a big fan of any Texas teams, college or otherwise.
For Titans fans it's been a bitter season as well, albeit with bright spots for times ahead. Chris Johnson is fast emerging as one of the most valuable players in the NFL, but more poignant for me is the rebirth of Vince Young.
Here in the bitter brain erasing cold of early January, I will say it, with months to go before a hint of Tennessee football. Vince Young is going to be a legendary NFL quarterback. He's got a lot of the late Steve McNair in him. He's got a lot of Steve Young in him. He is an old school player in many ways, never afraid to run the ball in for a first down himself. I know he's erratic, but so was Terry Bradshaw when he started out. And the same criticism was leveled against Mr four time MVP Manning near the beginning of his career. If the Titans can restructure their defensive line, I think this year's team will be fearsome with Young, Johnson, emerging stars like Kenny Britt and Jared Cook, and of course Mr Nate Washington, who does have a tendency to drop the ball as much as he catches it. Still, this is an offense to be reckoned with.
There has always been a chorus of doubt around the viability of Vince Young as an NFL player, and I honestly don't understand why. He does have a tendency to get hurt a lot, he has shown a bit of immaturity in the past in matters off the field, and he obviously had to win the trust of Jeff Fisher back this past season. But at 26, he is still very young and still coming into his best years as a player. And when he is good, he is amazing.
So I offer up a few highlights, starting with his legendary BCS national championship win over USC, and ending with the late November Titans win over Arizona, one of the most amazing offensive drives I ever seen in the NFL. Oh and of course, what would a great NFL game be without a bit of irony. The Titans/Arizona game featured Matt Leinart as Arizona's quarterback, who played the same position in the 2006 Rose Bowl for USC. Poor Mr Leinart got to experience Vince Young miracles twice.
