Merida is the capital of the Yucatan province, Mexico. One of the first Spanish cities in Mexico, the cathedral in the central town square is the oldest in North America. Through a series of bizarre circumstances, my friends and I were routed through Merida in an attempt to get us back home over the weekend. Sometimes the tyranny of airline shutdowns has pleasing results for the curious traveler. I was so happy to be able to spend just one night in this beautiful town, although sadly I didn't have time to take any pictures.
